WAHINE CONNECT OVER HIGH TEA

Updated: May 1, 2020

Vintage tea sets were dusted off and freshly-baked scones dolloped with jam and cream were on display for the inaugural meeting of the Wāhine Connect group.

A delightful mid-morning High Tea celebration launched a very special gathering of women under the Pou Whakaaro Family Support network.

Held at Pou Whakaaro House on Monday 14th October, the Wāhine Connect group enjoyed meeting each other and chatting over the tea cups.

The smiles, laughter, and parting hugs of appreciation with newly formed friends showed that the initial meeting of the women’s group was a resounding success.

A huge surprise for the group was each attendee receiving a jam-packed ‘goodie bag’, made possible with the generous support of local and national businesses.

To witness the goodie bag reveal, was like seeing children brimming with excitement over Santa stockings on a Christmas morning. This will undoubtedly be the first of many gatherings for Wāhine Connect, who will continue to meet on a regular basis.

Organiser, Family Support Worker Nickie-Jean, began the group as a means to connect women in similar circumstances and engage in a positive experience or uplifting activity, whilst having some much needed time-out. Future session ideas include crafting and pampering - and always with an opportunity for a laugh - something that these ladies are wholeheartedly looking forward to.
